Biography


1981-1986 Ingenieur (Ir) Chemical Technology, Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands

1987-1990 PhD in Biology, University of Wales, Aberystwyth, on autoclavable sensors for fermentor minitoring and control (supervisor Douglas B. Kell) (this work led to 15 publications)

1990-1997 postdoc in school of electronic engineering in the University of Wales, Bangor

1997-2007 Lecturer, and later Senior Lecturer, in Chemical Engineering in UMIST/the University of Manchester

2007-present Professor of Bioprocessing, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh
